Perfluorocarbon Rubber, FFKM, is one of the most expensive synthetic rubber compounds produced. Natural rubber is the one that is extracted from the latex produced by certain plants, commonly known as rubber trees.
Silicone rubber is more expensive than other synthetic and natural rubber variations due to its superior thermal stability and environmental resistance as well as its lengthy production process.
Thailand produced 4.75 million metric tons of natural rubber in 2022. That volume accounted for approximately 35 percent of global natural rubber production that year. This made Thailand the world's leading natural rubber producing country.

Silicone is an effective rubber substitute because it has low toxicity levels and it's heat resistant. This is partly why it's used in cookware, feeding nipples and pacifiers. It is also used for industrial processes, silicone is an excellent lubricant and adhesive.
Aside from synthetic rubber, there are two primary alternatives to natural rubber: silicone and thermoplastic elastomers. Silicone is a synthetic material with rubber-like texture that has low toxicity levels and high heat resistance.

Currently, rubber is harvested mainly in the form of the latex from the Pará rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) or others. The latex is a sticky, milky and white colloid drawn off by making incisions in the bark and collecting the fluid in vessels in a process called "tapping".
Latex sap slowly drips into a cup, and is collected and processed. An average rubber tree yields 19 pounds of rubber latex annually. It requires 700,000 rubber trees to supply Alliance each year with natural rubber. Trees are six years old before tapping for rubber begins and they may be tapped for up to 28 years.
Due to its properties, its uses are extensive. Rubbers are used in everyday life. It is used to make car tires, conveyor belts, used as adhesive to join any material, used to make balloons, gloves, rubber bands which are extensively used by everyone in everyday life.
It adheres to metal, glass, marble, tile, ceramic, porcelain, painted surfaces, non-oily woods, and rubber. It can be used as an adhesive for bonding surfaces together.
Why is silica so expensive?
Economic conditions wield significant influence, with the demand for silica intricately tied to construction projects, semiconductor manufacturing, and the production of glass and ceramics. Economic growth stimulates the need for silica-based products, impacting its prices accordingly.
The price difference between natural and synthetic rubber is due to both demand-side factors; use and production and supply-side factors, including the prices of raw materials and agricultural constraints.

Largest importers of natural rubber worldwide based on value 2021. China was the largest importer of natural rubber in the world in 2021, with purchases valued at 3.9 billion U.S. dollars. This accounted for 22 percent of the global value of natural rubber imports in 2021.
In general, silicone tends to be harder than natural rubber. However, the hardness of both materials can vary depending on their specific formulations and intended uses.
