What is the difference between thermoplastic and MMA?
Thermoplastic is heated before application and can be softened on hot surfaces, leading to tracking from tires. Cracking/blemishes. MMA remains clean after application when bead embedment is correct, while thermoplastic pavement markings require flawless pavement and still tend to blemish quickly.
How Long Do Thermoplastic Road Markings Last? Thermoplastics road markings usually last between 3-7 years but there are factors which can impact the lifespan and durability of these markings.
Thermoplastic marking paint consists of synthetic (polymeric or non-polymeric) resin, glass beads, pigments, fillers (fine like calcium carbonate and coarse like sand), packing materials, additives, etc. Synthetic resin has thermoplasticity, make the hot melt coating fast-dry and strongly adhesive to the road surface.
Epoxy Paints
Epoxy paint is longer-lasting than standard traffic marking paint. It offers impact and abrasion resistance. This makes it ideal to use on concrete, although concrete surfaces must be prepped prior to applying epoxy.
STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKING
Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) traffic paints are two-component liquid pavement marking/traffic striping materials that consist of a MMA resin (pigmented) and a catalyst. The two components are mixed as they are applied and generally cure in less than 15 minutes (at 77°F).
“For heavy accumulations of paint that has dried for several days, apply a liberal coating of petroleum jelly to the dried traffic paint and allow it to stay on overnight (8 to 12 hrs.). Take the vehicle to a pressure car wash and wash it.” This should remove most of the traffic paint.
MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) is a cold, solvent-free plastic that has the benefits of both paint and thermoplastic. It is extremely durable and holds colour well without fading, making it perfect for high traffic areas, junctions, roundabouts and pedestrian crossings.
MMA coatings consist of a two-part mixture that forms a chemical bond with a surface after the catalyst is properly mixed in. It requires no heating and may be applied at colder temps compared to thermoplastics.

White markings are between lanes moving the same direction. Yellow markings are between opposing Directions of travel. And the simple answer is that a dotted line Allows for being crossed (either to overtake or turn) but any solid line means do not cross.
How thick are thermoplastic pavement markings?
All chevrons, diagonal and transverse lines, messages, symbols, and arrows, wherever located, will have a thickness of 0.09 inch or 90 mils to 0.12 inch or 120 mils when measured above the pavement surface.

Advantages of Thermoplastics
Their inherent flexibility makes them an excellent choice for manufacturers who require shock-absorbent products that can withstand wear and tear while retaining their shape. Thermoplastics are generally more cost-effective than thermosets because they're easier to process.
Thermoplastics are ductile and impact resistant. In many applications thermoplastics have a longer service life compared to alternative materials because they don't dent, ding, chip, crack, splinter, or fray. This reduces service calls and component replacements in even the most demanding applications.
The WD-40 will soften the traffic paint without harming the vehicles finish. If there is a heavy concentration of paint, repeat the WD-40 procedure. For heavy accumulations or paint that has dried for several days, apply a liberal coating of Vaseline to the dried traffic paint and allow it to remain overnight.

Once a bead is broken, it no longer reflects. Wear from tires, snow plows and road oils can wreak havoc on bead surfaces, creating pocks and other deformities that can negatively affect reflective performance.
Linseed Oil Paint can last 50 to 100 years with minimal maintenance. Maintain with the Purified Organic Boiled Linseed Oil and the Linseed Oil Wax. The last coat will work as the sacrificial coat.
When it comes to durability, an enamel- or oil-based paint is usually the right choice. That said, if you don't prepare the surface properly beforehand, these paints won't last as well as they should. It's imperative to understand the qualities of any paint that you're purchasing.
