In pop culture, Tyler The Creator is following the footsteps of the late Virgil Abloh, Nigo, and Louis Vuitton’s current creative director for menswear Pharrell Williams. And his watch collection too, is on par with the rapper-turned-designer’s eclectic taste.

Casio Classic Analog Watch

Dubbed “The Most Lowkey Watch Imaginable” byGQ, the Casio Classic Analog Watch was first publicly spotted on Tyler’s wrist atWall Street Journal’s 2019 Music Innovator Awards. This is an automatic watch of course and it relies on a small quartz crystal rather than a complex network of gears, rotors, and springs, to tell time. And, this love affair between Tyler and Casio Analog is only one instance of celebrities wearing affordable watches. Others following the trend include Ryan Gosling, Kristen Stewart, Bernie Sanders, and Barack Obama.

Cartier Coilissant

Cartier takes up a sizable part of Tyler’s watch collection. In 2021, he was spotted wearing a rare Coulissant watch, which he purchased at the Monaco Legends Auctions for reportedly €15,600. This baguette-shaped timepiece, executed in solid gold and equipped with a blue leather strap, features a concealed dial, visible only after opening the sliding window, which reveals applied gold indices and Arabic numerals.

Cartier Petit Cylindre

Another of Tyler's acquisitions from Monaco Legend Auctions was the Petit Cylindre. The miniature timepiece boasts a unique design with heavily domed semi-cylindrical glass covering its minimalistic dial. The timepiece houses a LeCoultre Duoplan movement, similar to the Coulissant model, and also features a horizontally positioned caseback crown. Two block-shaped protrusions support the strange case, held by screw-bars that secure the strap in between.

Cartier Tank Obus Quadrant

In 2021, Tyler The Creator walked out of the Monaco Legend Auctions with quite a score of Cartier timepieces, including the rare Tank Obus Quadrant, the model first conceived in 1929. The star last wore the piece to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) party in 2021. This watch has the Roman numerals printed not on the dial but rather on the widened bezel, which also features a railroad minute track in arresting inky blue color.

Cartier Baignoire

Among the many treasures in Tyler The Creator's collection, one stands out as particularly rare – the Cartier Baignoire. This oblong timepiece was originally released with a round case, but was later altered by Cartier's London workshop in 1912 to create its elongated shape, giving it the name "Allongée". Interestingly, the watch is aptly named after the French word for "bathtub", adding a touch of whimsy to its luxury design.

Cartier Crash

A veritable jewel among the other valuable watches in Tyler’s collection is the Cartier Crash – one of the rarest and most coveted models the maison has to offer. The model captivates with its surrealist dial, which pays homage to Salvador Dalí’sThe Persistence of Memory, and has recently been spotted among an array of celebrities, like Jay-Z, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Ambush’s Yoon Ahn.

Cartier Tank Must de Cartier 30MM

A true rarity in the watch world, the Tank Must with Arabic numerals is a prized possession. Seen here on the wrist of Tyler The Creator is reference 2415, crafted from sterling silver and coated in solid gold. Its petite 30mm x 22mm case houses a simple two-hand quartz movement. Tyler boldly pairs his with a vibrant green crocodile strap, and somehow it effortlessly complements his unique style. This piece, much like most in the rapper’s collection, emphasizes his “anti-bling” stance.

Louis Vuitton Monterey II

Given Tyler The Creator’s recent contribution to Louis Vuitton’s spring 2024 men’s capsule collection, it comes as no surprise that the rapper owns Monterey II (which he also helped reach cult status among watch enthusiasts). Once again proving that the coolest watch in the room doesn’t necessarily have to be the most expensive one, the Monterey debuted in 1988 and was designed by the renowned Italian architect Gae Aulenti. Monterey II features a simpler design compared to its predecessor yet carries within itself that universal appeal synonymous with both Aulenti and Louis Vuitton names.

Crash may hold the title of Cartier's iconic timepiece, but there is another contender vying for its throne - Pebble. The once-rare watch has made a triumphant return to the market after two pieces were auctioned off at prestigious houses, Philips and Bonhams. Hailing from the Swinging Sixties in London, where fashion, music, and culture intermingled in a vibrant display, the Pebble stands out with its unconventional shape. It was during this era that Cartier London boldly experimented with avant-garde designs, mirroring the city's shift from post-war conservatism to a more daring and playful outlook.
