Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
I bought a 150 of argon and a 150 of c25 for $200 each full a couple weeks ago. The seller said that he gets them from a business associate that buys them in bulk. Not real sure where they would come from in bulk. Met him in a parking lot and he had them in the back of his pickup. I checked em out and paid him. Not sure on the refills yet, but we have several independents and the national chains so we will see when they get empty.12-04-2019

i'm quite a newbie, I've always exachanged my argon tanks, how long does it take to refill you own cylinder bought, say, on craigslist?
You just go to an independent supply and they fill it in front of you ? Is it possible for every type of gas, like C25 ?
The advance of this is shopping for gas price. I was paying $2.35 per 100 cft of oxygen. But I would use 7,000 cft or more per week.
But I pay for all testing and valuesToday I kept 6 tanks and NO RENT.
Two tanks is set up on exchange when gas run out I just exchange to fill I do pay a higher price for gas.

Often many that won't sell the larger ones still do have customer owned in at least 125 cu ft size so just buy the tank anywhere if it is blank neck ring or customer owned they will usually swap you.Originally Posted by Dave66

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
We get rooked here.$500 to buy the bottle, $85 a refill. Thats straight argon or mix.
If you rent, theres a $500 deposit and (IIRC) 80 bucks a month rent. Refills still $85.
They must have a lots of shops/people go out of business and disappear with thier bottles, or people just never come back. Thats the only reason I can think of why bottle are so expensive here (not a big manufacturing area).
Since mine are just for personal use, I just sucked it up and bought a couple bottles. It didnt make sense to rent them at the prices they quoted. Theres only one welding supply shop here, but a hour away are several. They are all the same (or similar) with prices.
Everything is more expensive here. You just have to accept it as the price of living where I live....worth it to me.

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
Check with supplier on their exchange polices. Some will only exchange their tanks. If supplier will exchange any tanks, check Craigslist and facebook marketplace for cylinders. I would suggest a 125 OR 150. You'll get more gas for your money on refills . My 330 oxygen cost only about $15 then my 125.Originally Posted by Mojo1

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
I was looking to get one more 300 argon from Airgas so I have a tank on every welder. A total of 10 tanks but I have papers for only 4, one argon, one 75/25, one oxy, and one acet. Being I have papers for anything I have I never get hassled at Airgas, they just think its the same tank. I usually exchange at the local tire store since they're a Airgas distributor and I never ever get asked about my account there. The tire store is a few bucks more but Airgas stores are a hour away so I don't go directly to the store unless I'm making a trip of it but at the Airgas store the price is better than the tire store cause the tire store needs a cut of the money. I went to Airgas lacrosse, WI and asked about buying a tank, they said they only do a 1 yr lease for $45 or a 5 yr for $120. I said that's crap because I got a 300 argon and a 300 75/25 from Airgas in Waterloo, IA. The tanks from Waterloo are a 999 year lease so I essentially own them. So, I called Airgas Dubuque, IA and asked them about a 300 argon and they said that's no problem, we'll sell you a tank. I haven't picked it up yet but I'm assuming it's another 999 year lease. Point being, ask around. I think some locations have their heads up their asses when it comes to policy's.10-06-2019

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
Thanks for the help, I checked out this thread before getting gas for my new welder.
Came with a 80cf no name that was just out of hydro.Choices were: Airgas, Praxair, Allgas in the Hartford CT area.
Called Allgas first because they’re independent and they can hydro.
$20 to hydro and $52 to fill with argon.
Asked about renting $50/year any size cylinder and $59 for a 300cf argon fill.
No brainer two fills of the 80cf bottle, 160cf = $104 vs 300cf for $109.05-06-2019

Prices seem pretty high. I just got a 125cf argon and a 125cf C25. Rental is 58.00yr each, fill was 42.00 each. This was from Techair.05-05-2019

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
Sorry, I don't remember what I paid for the fill. My understanding is prices are different depending on area. Some companies won't sell the big tanks. I own at several big tanks from a company that won't sell them. I have the paperwork showing ownership.
I found the best way to get tanks at a fair price is to search them out. I bought a large, >200 cu ft, Helium tank from a guy on Craigslist for $50. I took it to my lws dealer. If I remember right it was out of test. I could either wait for a week or two for them to send the tank out to purge, test, and fill. My other option was that they would just exchange one of their large tanks, the ones they don't sell. I now have two of their large tanks in my garage. I swapped the helium tank for a large 75/25.
I opted for one of their tanks because I will never pay a test fee again, and I can sell them just like any other tank.
I will warn you of a couple of things.
Call your local dealer and see if they will exchange a helium, or whatever, tank for a tank you need. They will tell you what to look for as far as dates, and names cast on the tank. Some names they won't take, others the will swap.
And above all else, know when to quit. I started looking and went from zero tanks to about 8. I figured the small ones would be handy for field work.

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
My 125 is $215.00 and the 150 is $225.00. The 300's use to be around $325.00 . I would go to your local supplier and tell them what you have and what's current replacement value. I would think your insurance is going to want a statement from a supplier .05-04-2019

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
Sorry if this is a repeat query, but I'm kind of bogged down in paperwork and could use some advice. In the November Camp wildfire here in No CA I lost my home and shop. Burned to the ground, the welding and propane stuff must have been a blast (sorry). I owned 3-300ft cylinders, (pretty sure they were 300s): argon, argon/nitrogen, and straight nitrogen. I bought them awhile back, they were old, but still in hydro range. Anyway, I have to report EVERYthing I lost including replacement value. They were used when I bought them and I had exchanged them a few times. So, can anyone offer me the FMV of replacements, or where I could look? I guess I could just go to the locals and ask, but I like dropping by here a lot (and I have to keep at this damn list). I also had a typical oxy/acet rig too, and the small portable rig, but I think I have that info. Thanks as always.

Re: price to lease/buy and fill argon bottle
I just purchased two new size 300 cylinders from airgas 2 weeks ago. They were $285 each being I bought 2 of them otherwise its about $300 for a 300 cylinder. First fill is free. One was pure argon and the other was 75/25. I had one filled a few months ago and it was about $117 for filling a 300. I have never had problems with airgas, They don't jerk me around and I always feel they treat me fairly.05-16-2017
