CCE Wayne County custodian will provide custodial services for the Association building including, but not limited to: general custodial cleaning, light maintenance, small repairs, monitoring HVAC, plumbing electrical and other systems for repair needs, contacting contractors for repairs. Assist the Executive Director in supervision of volunteers who are helping in the same capacity.

Required Qualifications

  • High School or Equivalent Education

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position

  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read and write proficiently) in English.

  • Ability to lift and/or move equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.

  • Must have access to transportation to use it for work related travel and occasional transport of materials.

  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook and Word.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and execute maintenance plans.

  • Ability to adhere to regularly scheduled, routine maintenance work recurring on daily, weekly, seasonal and annual basis as appropriate.

  • Have a sincere interest and concern for helping the Association project a positive image to the community.

  • Functional knowledge or technical training in basic building maintenance duties, light construction.

    Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

    Administrative Responsibilities:

Coordination/Operation – 95 %

  • Perform a substantial amount of routine non­complex tasks to support the administration of the Association or departments as assigned.

  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.

  • Coordinate with repair workers and contractors about estimates and communicating about work needs.

  • This position may require the purchase and transport of self and/or materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.

  • Perform general custodial services including but not limited to

  • Clean, dust, polish, vacuum, mop, sweep, and strip and wax floors on a regular basis.

  • Empty/clean all waste receptacles, handle recycling materials.

  • Clean restroom facilities daily and supply paper products.

  • Wash walls, windows, and sills on a regular basis.

  • Arrange for sweep/shovel snow (and add salt) from walkways to building entrances.

  • Keep hallways and entrances clean from debris.

  • Work with staff for activity room set up and clean up.

  • Order or purchase needed materials in consultation with Executive Director.

  • Coordinate and execute General Building Care and Maintenance, including but not limited to:

  • Work with Executive Director and staff to identify building maintenance and repair needs including but not limited to painting, sanding, light construction.

  • Lock and unlock building and check on and secure facilities when not in use.

  • Use and maintain assigned equipment and hand tools.

  • Perform general grounds maintenance coordination, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinating lawn mowing and basic landscaping needs.

  • Coordinate seasonal grounds care including leaf removal, tree trimming, snow/ice removal.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions.

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
