If there is ever a good time to watch these movies, it's this time of year seeing as the weather is sh*tty at the moment, you’re most likely in hibernation waiting for some dry spells. If you’re done binging your Netflix shows, or you simply just can’t be arsed to sit through something like Lord of the Rings, try Lords of Dogtown instead! Here are 10 full-length skate movies you can get lost in.


Back to the Future was brought to our screens in 1985 and is a timeless classic! In the years since its release, Back to the Future has grown in esteem and is now considered to be among the greatest films of the 1980s. This will always be an important milestone for skateboarding.

Marty McFly is a college student who skitches around town on his board to get from A to B, whilst making it look really fun, all respect was given to Micheal J Fox when it became known that he learned to skate in real life to fill the role of his character for the movie.


The Search for Animal Chin is a 1987 movie featuring The Bones Brigade. This is one of the first movies featuring skateboarding to actually have a plot, not just video parts with tricks and music.

Starring, Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero, C.R. Stecyk III who travel around California, Nevada, and Hawaii to different skate spots in search of a wizened old man, Won Ton "Animal" Chin.


An Extremely Goofy Movie is a 2000 American animated musical comedy-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Television Animation and directed by Douglas McCarthy. It is a standalone sequel to the 1995 film A Goofy Movie and the finale to the television series.

Max and his friends are invited by Bradley (a skate veteran) to join him and take part in the college's X Games.


If you like movies that are bat sh*t crazy… This is the one the check out! Starring Tom Green, who performs a creative line that takes place in the mall at the start of the movie while leading a pursuit by security guards. There is also a famous scene that is played out later in the movie where Tom and his friend finish their project of building a mini ramp in his driveway, they test it out in and let’s just say… Hall of Meat!

This one will have you laughing so much that the back of your head will feel like it’s going to explode by the end of the movie.

5. GRIND. (2003)

A typical teenage 2000s movie, based on four skaters that decide to follow their idol ‘Jimmy Wilkins’ on his summer tour in an attempt to get noticed, get sponsored and become stars themselves. Every time they get close to Jimmy, something prevents them from getting their foot in the door.

They are given motivating advice to keep skating, stay true to yourself, and stay in the game - “If you're good, you'll get noticed”.

6.DECK DOGZ. (2005)

From problems in school to problems at home, dad doesn't seem to understand what it means for Jay to become a professional skateboarder. Based in Adelaide, Australia, the teens go on a road trip as jay and his friends run decide to run away from home and from law enforcement due to a serious accident that would cost them a lot of time behind bars.

This movie is about as corny as they get, as they travel to skate Tony Hawk’s contest in return for a sponsorship.


This movie is based on the lives of the following skaters, Jay Adams, Tony Alva, Bob Biniak, Chris Cahill, Paul Constantineau, Shogo Kubo, Jim Muir, Peggy Oki.

Set in the Dogtown area of Santa Monica in the mid-1970s, surfers Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta, and Jay Adams enjoy the life of skating and surfing the pier with board designer Skip Engblom and the other locals. This is based on true events, and with great detail, we learn about the birth of skating during the mid-70s and how the surf scene plays such an important role in the creation of skateboarding. It’s legendary and worth watching!

8. SKATE OR DIE. (2008)

Skate or Die is a French movie which is based in Paris, the main characters (Benjamin and Jerome) are two skaters that travel to the city to buy some weed and to go and explore some of the city with their boards and camera. Without giving too much away, they capture a murder involving a gang and a corrupt police officer on their camera, however, they are not aware this man is a man is a fed until later when they go to the police station and are shocked to see the man in question. The two skaters are then pursued through the city as if they’re the countries most wanted.


Machotaildrop was directed by Corey Adams and it’s a pretty trippy one with Willy Wonka vibes throughout. Starring Rick McCrank and Anthony Amedori as the main character, ‘Walter’ who is an 18-year-old newcomer and he’s hungry for success, and cakes. Being a regular to the local skate shop/cake shop called Cakeskate which is owned and run by skate legend Steve Olson.

Walter gets the opportunity to join ‘Matcho Taildop’ which is the ‘best skateboarding company’ of that time, also meaning he has to go on an adventure to prove himself in a series of contests and challenges at the secret island - Matchotaildrop HQ.

10. STREET DREAMS. (2009)


With Paul Rodriguez as Derrick Cabrera, like all skateboarders, dreams of being sponsored one day. He has all the talent in the world to make it happen but some major roadblocks to overcome before he can make his dream become reality. This movie also includes such legends as; Rob Dyrdek, Ryan Sheckler, Terry Kennedy and Ryan Dunn (RIP).

BONUS MOVIE.MID-90s. (2018)

We decided to give you a bonus movie, seeing as this is the most recent and gained most popularity, we figured you already know about this one. But anyway, as you can guess, this movie 90s based. Directed by Jonah Hill, this movie was a hit! And as far as branding, music, bedroom posters, and outfit choices go, Jonah hit the nail on the head by making sure everything is reflecting the 90s era.

The movie follows a thirteen-year-old kid by the name of Stevie (played by Sunny Suljic) who is Los Angeles based. He finds himself driven towards the skateboarding scene ever since his first visit to the local skate shop. Ray (played by Na-Kel Smith) begins to look out for Stevie and becomes an older brother figure. Stevie begins to learn a lot of life lessons from the crew as they hit spots and get up to mischief.
